Fight Depression, Here Are Simple Habits That Change My Life

I wake up in the morning and I feel so weak, my mind telling me that nothing exciting to do, I hardly move my body out of the blanket. I know I will have a delightful day ahead, just get out of the bed, open the curtain, feel the warm morning sunlight, make coffee, what’s so hard about that? but still I feel like I am not in the mood, feels like empty, numb, no passionate about anything. Yeah I know there is something wrong with my mind that I need to heal. It is maybe the early sign of depression, or I am just over stressed with my daily activities. Seeking professional help is a must if you feel overwhelmed with your thoughts, having friends or family to talk or community that can support you is also a nice idea. But the most prominent role in battling it is ourselves. The ardor of having beautiful meaningful life may help you get out from this situation.

I might be stressed, I might be depressed but one thing I should realize is life is not perfect neither do I. I don’t need to be perfect what I need is to be the best version of me. I know the early signs of depression as I had gone through this several time. But I want to get over it, I don’t want it affecting my life over and over again, so when I feel something isn’t right. I motivate myself to get over it.

When I feel unmotivated, I can’t think clearly sometimes I feel the whole world is collapse swallowing me. But here I am, sometimes I can’t change the situation instantly but I know I can change myself. I am a believer of one small things can change the whole world. Trust me being an optimist is better than being a pessimist, hahaha….

Here are some things I did to have a better day ahead and get my depression away, I don’t want too fee it I want it to go away and be a stronger person in facing harsh reality in life.

  1. Get out of bed, Get up

I know it is not easy to get out of bed, get up and getting ready. I know the feeling of want to stay in bed all day covered in blanket as if the blanket can save you from the problem that will swallow you alive. But hey, say it to your mind, come on I am bigger than my problem, tell your body to get up, get out the bed, you have a wonderful day ahead, everyday, every hour, every minute, every second in life is so precious, my problem may not instantly go away but I deserve to have a good day, a good life!

I know how it feels to get up, too hard to do sometimes, but even though you need to crawl out of the bed, do it! Seriously life is too precious to be wasted.

2. Get sunlight exposure

Believe it or not, just by opening the curtains feel the bright and warn of sunlight can cause so much positive effects not only for the body but also the the mind. Being in the dark gloomy room can affect your mood, it may worsen your mood. Warm, light room can help lift up your mood. Don’t just stop there, open the window, feel the breeze. Get out to the balcony or take a walk around the neighborhood. Do outdoor activities, feel the fresh air. It will help you to feel more alive, fresh and have a clearer mind.

3. Be a morning person

I know when having problems, sleeping difficulty could be a serious problem. You stay awake all night long, and fell asleep at dawn, can’t get up till afternoon. Having difficulty to sleep at night is torturing, I know it cause I had experienced it. Sometimes the more you tried to get some sleep the more you can’t. It takes time, but after I had dinner, take warm shower, I tried to stay away from my phone, watch tv comedy movies for about half or one hour. Then turn it off, have some meditation so I can be in a more peaceful state of mind. If you are a religious person then you can pray. Lastly I will tell myself that, the problem won’t go away even though I don’t sleep. So just sleep, because tomorrow I need a good mood and energy to shoo my problems away.

4. Have a pleasant morning routine to start the day

Having a pleasant morning might give you a great day ahead. Imagine that you get up late, rushing to the office, buy coffee on the way to the office, you are running late, bump into stranger because you are rushing to the elevator and you spill the coffee all over your nice shirt. Wow, I am sure it sucks! So as I said before, wake up early, have a morning routine that can lift up your mood, maybe having coffee at home while reading news, making toast for breakfast, preparing lunch or anything you feel good to do in the morning. Cause it can make you more enthusiast to live the day.

These simple things have helped me through my stressful, unmotivated days, I realize that I am the one who can help me get out from depression. As I said before life is not perfect neither do I, but I can be the best version of myself because life is so precious that we should enjoy. I am sharing this and I hope whoever in a same mental state with me will get motivated and getting better too
